Proclaiming the amazing Grace of God in "Love and Service" This picture of the Annunciation reminds us of Mary's yes to God's will to bear his beloved Son Jesus at the Annunciation. The word "Handmaid" is an imitation of Mary's surrender to do God's will in Luke 1:38. The Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus pattern their lives after the example of Mary who profoundly trusted God. Therefore it is the principal feast day for the Congregation which is celebrated annually on March 25th.

"Behold like clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand"(Jer.18:6). A religious vocation is a special gift from God and a call to an ever deeper knowledge, ardent love and dedicated service to him. Through formation, we form and are formed by a process that enables us to respond faithfully, freely and responsibly to God's invitation to grow continuously in charity. Every Handmaid shares in this responsibility.
Mission Statement:
We, the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus, in the footsteps of our Foundress, Mother Mary Charles Magdalen Walker, are called to make Christ known and loved by all. We have a preferential option for the poor, sick, women and children.
We minister to transform the person through education, pastoral and health care, carried out in simplicity, generosity and trust in Divine Providence. Nigeriais where our Motherhouse is located.
The spirit of our Congregation is that of selfless service patterned after the example of Mary at the Annunciation, who in her total surrender to the will of God in her fiat accepted to be the mother of the Holy Child JesusWe are an international institute of Pontifical right, functioning as an independent community with basic directives from the Vatican. We are missionary in nature with members numbered above 640. Drawn together by the love of God from diverse ethnic backgrounds, we have come to be with Jesus and with one another in the spirit of the early Christians who were of one mind and heart. Through community we plan, execute and totally empty ourselves for the mission of our Congregation as we share in the life of one another. These words of Mother Walker continue to echo in the lives of Handmaids today: We must put all personal feelings aside and consider the work for souls.
